Write a Letter

Advocacy is a cruical part of the MorePeaceCorps Campaign. Alerting lawmakers and leaders to the importance of expanding and improving the Peace Corps will get them to take action on our behalf.

The BASICS

  • Send letters today! Don’t wait. The strategy is to start trickling in letters now.
  • You don’t have to be a returned volunteer to write one.
  • Send letters to more than one lawmaker (see your state page for contact list) to multiply the effect.
  • We may ask you to write a letter again in the future so please save a copy.
  • This is a way for you to communicate your ideas about a better and bolder Peace Corps.
  • Once new legislation is introduced in the 111th Congress, the letter may change.  We will keep you updated.

TIPS FOR EFFECTIVENESS

  • Due to new security screening procedures, letters to Washington DC offices take an average of 7 weeks before they are read.  Please write to a local office!  In addition to sending a letter via the post office, you can also fax or email it.  You should also call the office a few days after sending the letter.
  • Be forthcoming and concise about why you think the budget and number of volunteers in Peace Corps should be doubled (the one-page campaign fact sheet contains helpful data).
  • Make your letter look professional.
  • If you served in the Peace Corps, be sure to indicate where and during what years.  Be sure to include a title in your signature.
  • Please urge others (siblings, parents, friends, other Peace Corps volunteers) to write letters. Optional: Send a photocopy of the letter to the campaign:
Rajeev Goyal, M+R Strategic Services, 80 Broad Street, Suite 1700, New York NY 10004

Ready... Set... Go!

We believe that every letter sent can make a difference. To get started, find the address of the lawmaker or leader you'd like to reach through the states pages.
