"Our present world cries out for a new Peace Corps-a vastly improved, expanded, and profoundly deeper enterprise.... I'm not defending the old Peace Corps - I'm attacking it! We didn't go far enough! Our dreams were large, but our actions were small. We never really gave the goal of 'World Wide Peace' an overwhelming commitment. Nor did we establish a clear, inspiring vision for attaining it."
— Sargent Shriver, Speech at Yale University, November 2001
The MorePeaceCorps Campaign is a national outreach and legislative campaign to build broad public support for a reinvigorated Peace Corps – doubled in size and budget by 2011, the 50th anniversary of Peace Corps.
A better Peace Corps means new partnerships with other innovative organizations, major investments in public health, agriculture and education, robust training programs, a stronger Peace Corps Response Team (formerly Crisis Corps), and much more. It’s about giving an edge to an esteemed institution and trying new things—changing with the times. In the Fall of 2008, we will be conducting an online survey to collect more ideas for making Peace Corps even better.
How can the Peace Corps become bolder? More volunteers and resources along with better programs and initiatives will empower the Peace Corps to make a difference around the world and call to action a new generation of leaders in the United States.
